DIALOGUE

"Annie
Oakley" is packed full of the riproaring fun of Buffalo's Wild
West Show! Annie falls in love with showman Frank, but first
she's got to get a few things straight... |
BILL:
Before
anybody knew what happened, Annie Oakley became the Wild Wests
most shining star!
(ANNIE
turns, ALL applaud.)
ANNIE: (hop
and kick) Hot-diggety-dog!
(Sound
subsides, JESS and BILL exit. FRANK helps ANNIE down.)
ANNIE:
I hope you dont mind, Frank.
FRANK:
Mind? Why should I mind? Just cuz nobody ever beat me in a
shootin match before you? Just cuz I used to be Buffalo
Bills biggest star! What do I care if I get whupped by a girl?
ANNIE:
You aint been whupped, Frank. Why, were a team, you and
me. And as I think you noticed, I aint just a girl no more.
FRANK: (takes
box from his vest) I been carrying this around for some time
now. Werent sure if I should give it to you.
ANNIE:
What is it? A peace pipe?
FRANK:
I decided. If I cant beat ya... better join ya.
(Gives
HER a box, SHE opens it, diamond ring. SHE smiles, away from HIM,
then becomes solemn.)
ANNIE:
You gotta understand, Frank. I come into my own now. I aint
like other ladies. I come and go and do as I please. And no diamond
ring is ever gonna change that.
(ANNIE
holds ring out to HIM, HE covers HER hands with his.)
FRANK:Annie,
yous a army a polecats all bound up in five feet of woman.
Dont ever change, I dont think Id survive!
(THEY
look at each other in silent agreement. FRANK starts to kiss HER,
SHE puts out HER hand for a shake.)
ANNIE: Partners?
FRANK: Partners.
ANNIE:
As for this ring, take it back. I got no use for diamonds. (walks away)
FRANK:
But Annie, a fellas supposed to give his gal a ring!
ANNIE:
I got no use for "supposed to" neither. Buy me a horse I
can call my own!
(We
hear cheers: SOUND
CUE #12.
JESS
enters.)
JESS: (leading
ANNIE, on "horseback") Frank did just that and
every night Annie rode into the arena atop her handsome white
stallion, My Own, blowin kisses at her adoring fans...
(ANNIE
turns on the cube, blowing kisses, SHE sees FRANK and blows a
special kiss to HIM. HE catches it on his cheek.)
FRANK:
Thats my Annie.
