Large Cast Musical School Play for Young Performers

We Are The Dream was created for the many educators who have requested a meaningful musical children's play for a large cast of children, young performers.

The year is 1968...

In a classroom in the rural South, children prepare for a visit from Civil Rights Leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Ariel Community Academy, Children's Musical Play Production, Chicago, IL

Little do they know that by week's end the heroic figure they have so admired will be gone forever.

Through the telling of Dr. King's life the children begin to understand how his dream lives in their own hearts.

"I have a dream... I have a dream that one day little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls and walk together as sisters and brothers."

"I have a dream... I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.'"

Student "Dream" project on Martin Luther King Day.

A musical children's play, written for a large cast of young performers, We Are The Dream weaves soulful spirituals, gospel music, turbulent history and meaningful audience participation into an event of powerful emotional impact.

Familiar music and songs such as "My Lord, What a Morning", "Oh Happy Day", "Free at Last" and "We Shall Overcome" may be sung by a choir, students and audience, lending great spiritual depth to this American story of hope, courage and triumph.

Our deepest hopes for continued progress are dramatically illustrated in this musical children's play when performers and audience join hands in celebration of Martin Luther King's promise of hope:

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today."

Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech was delivered on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. on August 28, 1963.

Ariel Community Academy, Musical Children's Play Production, Chicago, IL

Dr. King's life ended tragically in 1968 but his dream lives on. It lives in the hearts and souls of every person on this Earth who believes in freedom - men, women, boys and girls, people in every land...brothers and sisters all.

We Are The Dream.

This School Play, a children's musical play, offers positive examples for children of all cultures!  It is written especially for a large cast of young performers.  It is especially powerful when performers of all ages join the cast and perform together.

Appropriate Dialogue for Children: Speeches and vocabulary are appropriate for child performers ages 6 - 12.

A Flexible Cast of 25 or more children: (Doubling and extras possible.) Every role has a name and at least three spoken lines.
